ABA programs have the opportunity to provide intensive one-on-one therapy to individuals as a way to teach a variety of skills. Additionally, ABA programs can work with families and children and decrease or minimize negative behaviors that may become problematic in a traditional school setting and that may interfere with learning.
STRUCTURE Works! Today I am continuing my ABA confessional with a discussion of how I’ve integrated ABA practices into my W hen Lisa Quinones-Fontanez’s son Norrin was diagnosed with autism at age 2, she and her husband did what most parents in their position do — they scrambled to form a plan to help their child.. Ultimately, they followed the experts’ advice. They put Norrin in a school that used applied behavioral analysis, or ABA, the longest-standing and best-established form of therapy for children As you teach your child the play scenario make sure you are focusing on just one step at a time. Then use a high rate of reinforcement when your child attempts the new skill. For more on reinforcement see Effective Reinforcement Using ABA. Things to Keep in Mind: Be patient.

The various ABA intervention techniques include: Discrete trial training (DTT) It is a form of ABA therapy which works on the principle of reinforcement (when a behavior is rewarded, it is likely to be repeated). ABA vs. TEACCH Study •Extended the original IDEAL research to investigate the social validity of practices within ABA and TEACCH •Analyzed the comprehensiveness of ABA and TEACCH based on the IDEAL categories & components •Results: There are significant gaps in the social validation of both ABA and TEACCH ABA considered much more effective in addressing rather then accommodating deficits. Additionally, ABA programs can work with families and children and decrease or minimize negative behaviors that may become problematic in a traditional school setting and that may interfere with learning. Discrete Trial Teaching (DTT) and Natural Environment Teaching (NET) are two common treatments used in the ABA field. NET and DDT have some similarities and differences, but essentially both are used to teach a variety of skills. Discrete Trial Training, or DTT, is one of the most common types of therapy used to treat autism spectrum disorder. Widely adopted in both school systems and by many private practices, as a parent, teacher or clinician working with kids on the spectrum, it would almost impossible not to run into DTT at some point.
